Press Release – Head of Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency Visits CPPA to Discuss Electricity-Related Matters

 

Islamabad, 2nd Aug 2023: Mr. Javid Abdullayev, Head of Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency under the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, visited the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) today for discussions on electricity-related matters. The visit was hosted by Mr. Rihan Akhtar, CEO (CPPA). The delegation was welcomed by Mr. Rehan Hameed, CHR&A Officer (CPPA).

Mr. Rihan Akhtar, CEO (CPPA) and Mr. Omer Haroon Malik, Head of Market O&D (CPPA), briefed Mr. Abdullayev on the role of CPPA in the Pakistani power sector, and on the CPPA’s efforts to promote renewable energy. The delegation was also apprised on the progress towards competitive electricity market in Pakistan. The importance of renewable energy in the development of a competitive market was highlighted and the challenges and opportunities facing the sector were also discussed.

The two sides also discussed the possibility of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Pakistan in the field of renewable energy. Mr. Abdullayev expressed interest in learning more about Pakistan's renewable energy potential, and in exploring opportunities for collaboration between the two countries.

Mr. Rihan Akhtar, CEO (CPPA) said that he was pleased to welcome Mr. Abdullayev to CPPA, and that he looked forward to further discussions on cooperation in the field of renewable energy.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency is a corporate body under the Ministry of Energy of the Government of Pakistan and as an agent of the distribution companies, responsible for purchasing electricity from independent power producers. CPPA also plays a role in promoting renewable energy in Pakistan.
